Many thoughts run through my head these days; I hope multiple posts quickly follow this one.
When Christ appears we will not recognize Him because we see Him; we will not recognize Him with our eyes.
Mary Magdalene, standing directly in front of Jesus, did not know it was Him, did not see Him.
Christ walked with two of His apostles, conversing for miles. They didn’t see Him.
Jesus appeared to His apostles as they were talking about Him. He said, “Peace be unto you.” “But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit (Luke 24:36-37/John 20).” Not for almost 10 versus do they see and hear Him (Luke 24:45).
In third Nephi 11 it’s not different. While at the temple the people hear God the Father’s voice three times, not understanding until the third. He invites them to see His son, to hear Him, telling them exactly what is going to happen. But when Christ descends from Heaven and stands directly in front of His people - the temple-going believers - “they wist not what it meant for they thought it was an angel that appeared unto them.”
I don’t think we will be different from Christ’s apostles, His friends who spent years walking and talking with him, or the temple-going Nephites. We will not know or recognize Jesus when He stands in front of us any more than we know, hear, and recognize Him now.
My ears (my heart!) have opened to President Nelson’s pleas:
“I renew my plea for you to do whatever it takes to increase your spiritual capacity to receive personal revelation.”
“choose to do the spiritual work required to enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost and hear the voice of the Spirit more frequently and more clearly.”
“I urge you to stretch beyond your current spiritual ability to receive personal revelation...”
“It has never been more imperative to know how the Spirit speaks to you than right now. In the Godhead, the Holy Ghost is the messenger.”
When Christ comes again, I will only know and recognize Him by the Holy Ghost, not in any other way.
It seems unsurprising that During conference all President Nelson’s words had to do with hearing the Savior more frequently and more clearly, and that they started “Hear Him” videos,teaching us that Christ individually and personally speaks to us through the Holy Ghost. Everything Jesus does is “one by one (3 Nephi 11:15)”, including the many ways He speaks to His children.
Elder Bruce R. McConkie’s words feel even more moving as I think about hearing Christ now so I will hear, see, know, and recognize Him when He comes, “And now, as pertaining to this perfect atonement, wrought by the shedding of the blood of God—I testify that it took place in Gethsemane and at Golgotha, and as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God and was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person. I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way.”
The Nephites did not see Jesus until He testified of Himself — the Holy Ghost must have pierced their hearts. Because of the Holy Ghost teaching them, telling them it was Christ, “the whole multitude fell to the earth;”
I don’t want to miss it! I don’t want to be wondering if He is an angel when He comes. Knowing Him, hearing His voice, starts today. I have redoubled my efforts to hear Him. I would love to hear if you are doing the same, have already started, are going to start. I want to hear your stories, your thoughts -- I even would love to share them in subsequent blog posts (with your permission, of course).

Cuando Cristo aparezca, no lo reconoceremos porque lo vemos; No lo reconoceremos con nuestros ojos.

Cristo conversó, caminando por millas con dos de sus apóstoles, pero ellos no lo vieron.
Jesús se apareció a sus apóstoles mientras hablaban de él! Cristo dijo: “Paz “a vosotros. "Entonces, espantados y atemorizados, pensaban que veían espíritu.(Lucas 24: 36-37 / Juan 20)". Por 10 más versículos, lo ven y lo oyen (Lucas 24:45).
En 3 Nefi 11 las personas no son diferentes. Mientras están en el templo escuchan la voz del Padre tres veces, sin comprender hasta la tercera. El padre los invita a ver a su hijo, a escucharlo. Cristo desciende del cielo y cuando está frente de sus creyentes (que aun asistan al templo), "no sabían lo que significaba, porque suponían que era un ángel que se les había aparecido".
No somos diferentes de los apóstoles de Cristo — sus amigos que pasaron años caminando y hablando con él, ni de los Nefitas, quienes creían en Él y asistían al templo — no conoceremos ni reconoceremos a Cristo cuando Él está en frente de nosotros, como tampoco lo conocemos y lo escuchamos ahora.
Mis oídos (¡mi corazón!) Se han abierto a las súplicas del presidente Nelson:
"Renuevo mi súplica para que hagas lo que sea necesario para aumentar tu capacidad espiritual de recibir revelación personal".
"Elige hacer el trabajo espiritual requerido para disfrutar del don del Espíritu Santo y escuchar la voz del Espíritu con mayor frecuencia y claridad".
"Te insto a que vayas más allá de tu capacidad espiritual actual para recibir revelación personal ..."
“Nunca ha sido más imperativo saber cómo te habla el Espíritu que en este momento…el Espíritu Santo es el mensajero.”
Cuando Cristo venga de nuevo, solo lo conoceré y reconoceré por el Espíritu Santo, no de ninguna otra manera. Ahorita tengo que recibir el Espíritu Santo para prepararme. Como lo recibo? Mas fe, arrepentimiento, siempre estar en las ordinanzaz (la santa cena!), y seguir así hasta que venga él.
No parece tan sorprendente que todas las palabras del presidente Nelson en la conferencia trataron de escuchar al Salvador con mayor frecuencia y claridad. Y la iglesia hizo los videos "Escúchenlo" que muestran cómo Cristo nos habla individual y personalmente a cada uno de nuestros entendimientos. Todo lo que Jesús hace es "uno por uno (3 Nefi 11:15)", incluso en la forma en que habla a cada uno de sus hijos.
Las palabras del élder Bruce R. McConkie son aún más conmovedoras cuando pienso en escuchar a Cristo ahora. Así lo escucharé, veré, conoceré y reconoceré cuando Él habla, y cuando venga: "Y ahora, en lo que respecta a esta expiación perfecta, forjado por el derramamiento de la sangre de Dios: testifico que tuvo lugar en Getsemaní y en el Gólgota, y en relación con Jesucristo, testifico que él es el Hijo del Dios viviente y fue crucificado por los pecados del mundo. Él es nuestro Señor, nuestro Dios y nuestro Rey. Esto lo sé de mí mismo independientemente de cualquier otra persona. Soy uno de sus testigos, y en un día próximo sentiré las marcas de los clavos en sus manos y en sus pies y mojaré sus pies con mis lágrimas. Pero no sabré nada mejor de lo que sé ahora que él es el Hijo Todopoderoso de Dios, que es nuestro Salvador y Redentor, y que la salvación viene a través de su sangre expiatoria y de ninguna otra manera ".
Los Nefitas no vieron a Jesús hasta que Él testificó de sí mismo y el Espíritu Santo perforó sus corazones. Supieron que era Él por el Espíritu Santo. Debido a que el Espíritu Santo los tocó, y les dijo que era Jesús, "toda la multitud cayó a la tierra".
No quiero ser así. No quiero no conocerlo, reconocerlo! No quiero pensar que, cuando venga, que solo es un ángel. Pero sé que conocerlo, escuchar su voz, comienza ahorita! He redoblado mis esfuerzos para escucharlo, buscandolo en las escrituras y en las palabras de los profetas. Me encantaría saber si estás haciendo lo mismo, si ya has comenzado, o si vas a comenzar. Quiero escuchar tus cuentos, tus pensamientos; incluso me encantaría compartirlos en publicaciones posteriores del blog (con tu permiso, por supuesto). Escúchalo - el discurso del Presidente Nelson, preparándonos por la segunda venida de Cristo, que no creo yo que es muy lejante.
3 Nefi 11 - yo he estado leyendo los capítulos antes (6-10) para aprender cómo va a ser el mundo (mosotros!) antes que Cristo venga. Tengo un deseo muy fuerte de aprender los señales de su segunda venida.
