Happy Easter. What a glorious weekend spent celebrating Him who overcame all illness and death so we will too. My love and prayers to all of you.

My mom was my seminary teacher by the time I realized she interpreted things differently than most in the Book of Mormon. A member of our tiny branch invited her for an interview to talk about the doctrine she taught. My mom was hell-bent on teaching that we are “saved by grace.” Period. That’s all.
She was crying and kind of shouting at me in the car one morning, “You are saved by grace! You are saved by grace!” And I kept saying, “I know mom. I know, mom. That’s what they are saying, too. We are saved by grace… after all we can do.” And she kept on, “No, you are saved by grace! You are saved by grace!” Then me again, “ I know, mom...that’s what they mean...”
And around we went.
Not until my mission - reading, studying, diving in to the scriptures myself - did I come to learn by the power of the Holy Ghost, that we really are saved by grace. Period. That’s all. The Holy Spirit made Nephi’s words crystal clear and I finally learned what my mom had been teaching all my life.
When we read Nephi’s words at first glance it sounds clear, “for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.”
But on my mission I heard the Savior say, “Whatever you do, or don’t do, and however much you do it or don’t do it, know” ….comma, breathe…. “you are only saved by grace.”
In other words, “After anything you could possibly do (in your imperfect, fallen state), it is only possible for me to save you, to be saved by my grace.”
There is no more liberating doctrine than that of faith, repentance, Jesus, and His grace. Do I need more power? Faith and repentance. Do I need strength beyond my own? Faith and repentance. Do I need my burden made light? Faith and Repentance. His grace always comes.
The gospel has become so plain I hardly believe what I read. Christ uses my faith and repentance to change my heart, to send miracles and to save. “There shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent (Mos 3).” Nothing I do saves. We will “know the name by which [we] are called; for [we] shall be called by the name of Christ (Mos 5).”
How do I take Christ’s name? “Because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters;”
Faith, repentance, baptism. Faith repentance, sacrament. Faith, repentance, sacrament...
That is all I can do; He sends infinite mercy and grace for the rest.
I love Him for doing everything I could never do for myself. Happy Easter, everyone.

Mi madre era nuestra maestra de seminario cuando me di cuenta de que interpretaba las cosas de manera diferente a la mayoría en el Libro de Mormón. Un miembro de nuestra rama la invitó a una entrevista para hablar sobre la doctrina que ella enseñó. Mi madre estaba segurísima que somos "salvados por la gracia”. Período. No, “después de hacer cuanto podamos.”
Estaba llorando y me gritaba en el auto una mañana: “¡Estás salva por gracia! ¡Eres salva por gracia!” Yo seguía diciendo: “Lo sé mamá. Lo se mamá. Eso es lo que dicen también. Somos salvos por gracia ... después de hacer cuanto podamos.” Y ella continuó: “¡No, eres salva por la gracia! ¡Eres salva por la gracia! Entonces yo otra vez, "Lo sé, mamá ... eso es lo que quieren decir ..."
Y asi seguimos.
No fue sino hasta mi misión, al leer, estudiar, sumergirme en las Escrituras, que aprendí por el poder del Espíritu Santo, que somos salvos por la gracia. Período. Es todo. No, “después de hacer lo que podamos.” El Espíritu Santo hizo que las palabras de Nefi fueran clarísimas y finalmente aprendí lo que mi madre había estado enseñando toda mi vida.
Cuando leemos las palabras de Nefi a primera vista, parece claro, “pues sabemos que es por la gracia por la que nos salvamos, después de hacer cuanto lo podamos.”
Pero en mi misión escuché al Salvador decir: "Hagas lo que hagas o no hagas, lo mucho que puedas o no puedas, pero sepa” ... pausa, respira ... “Solamente eres salva por mi gracia.”
En otras palabras, "Después de cualquier cosa que puedas hacer (en tu estado caído), solo es posible que yo te salve — que seas salvo por gracia".
No hay doctrina más liberadora que la de la fe, el arrepentimiento, Jesús y su gracia. ¿Necesito más poder? Fe y arrepentimiento. ¿Necesito fuerza más allá de la mía? Fe y arrepentimiento. ¿Necesito que mi carga sea ligera? Fe y arrepentimiento. Él siempre nos manda la gracia que pidamos para hacer lo demás.
El evangelio se ha vuelto tan claro que apenas creo lo que leo. Cristo usa mi fe y arrepentimiento para cambiar mi corazón, enviar milagros y salvar. "No se dará otro nombre ni otra senda ni medio, por el cual la salvación llegue a los hijos de los hombres, sino en el nombre de Cristo, el Señor Omnipotente (Mos 3)". Nada de lo que hago salva. “Sabrá el nombre por el cual es llamado; pues será llamado por el nombre de Cristo (Mos 5) ".
¿Cómo tomo sobre mi el nombre de Cristo? "a causa del convenio que habéis hecho, seréis llamados progenie de Cristo, hijos e hijas de él,"
Fe, arrepentimiento, bautismo. Fe arrepentimiento, santa cena. Fe, arrepentimiento, santa cena ...
Eso es “todo lo que pueda hacer.” Él nos enviará infinita misericordia y gracia para todo lo demás.
Lo amo por hacer todo lo que nunca haber podido hacer por mi misma. Feliz Pascua a todos.
